2024 Summer RV Trip

It’s been a while.  I’m not sure why.  Life just kind of got in the way of writing.  This summer we spent two months on the road.  We are so grateful that this trip had no RV issues.  We took the I-10 from Arizona to Pensacola Beach, Florida for a wedding and a week of beach enjoyment.  We made our way to northern Georgia, Kentucky, northern Illinois, and then a few weeks in Missouri (where Dennis and I are both from).

Charlie was an interesting travel companion.  The first stop in New Mexico, he look bewildered when we opened the door—it sure didn’t look like our back yard.  I took him to the dog space at the RV park—it was all desert sand but with an area in the center of grass.  Charlie didn’t know what to make of the grass.  As the trip moved on, he became familiar with grass.  He also became more relaxed as we traveled from destination to destination.  The one thing that he did not like was when we opened and closed the slides to the RV.  He was freaked out with the walls moving in or out and would bark the whole time they were moving!

We had good health for most of the trip.  The only exception was when in Missouri, Dennis inhaled a pill, rather than swallow it.  I didn’t even know that could happen.  Fortunately, our RV park was 2 miles from where I used to live in St. Charles, Missouri, so I knew where the closest hospital was.  They admitted him, and the following morning an endoscopy team came in just for him to remove the pill from his lung.  A couple facts we didn’t know:  1) A pill will not dissolve in the lung because there is no fluid or stomach acid, and 2) If the pill remains in the lung, the irritation would cause fluid to enter his lung—thus, pneumonia would occur.

Here are photos of our trip to see the wonderful places we visited.

Dennis and Charlie ready to leave fro two months of vacation.
Our first stop in Las Cruces, New Mexico had Charlie confused encountering real grass. He refused to walk on it. As the trip went along, he finally got comfortable walking on real grass!
Always an adventure to go through border patrol.
Do you think anyone would complain if Charlie decided to drive?
Houston, Texas – a huge congested city.
Arizona all the way to Florida, there is a lot of road construction on the I-10.
Our first major destination–Florida
Our RV park on Pensacola Beach
Sundown on the beach. So serene.
Our home away from home and the Jeep we towed along.

Oh, the clouds . . . .
Driving into beautiful Georgia to visit dear friends.
Charlie, meet Heidi. They spent two days playing nonstop.
The view from our friends’ home. So breathtaking!
Kudzoo — yes, it takes over everywhere!
The hills of Tennessee.
Made our way to the Ark Experience in Kentucky.
They built a replica of Noah’s ark using the measurements written in the Bible. Why did I never think how huge this boat would be. The interior is designed by what the technology of the time was–just using scientific and engineering ideas that may have been possible in the time of Noah. Very interesting.
Sometimes a dog just needs a nap as we travel.
I love farmland. This beauty did not disappoint in northern Illinois.
My hone state welcomed me back! Haha!
St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, MO gave Dennis such good care.
They opened Endoscopy Services just for Dennis on a Saturday morning.
The beautiful gardens at the hospital.
My cousin invited us to join him and his wife for a St. Louis Cardinals game. They have a tough year, but they won a game that night for us. Go Cards!
Our home state of Missouri has beautiful hills and lot of green trees. So refreshing driving through the state.
We stayed in Hamilton, Missouri for a couple days, the home of Missouri Star Quilt Company. They literally take over two downtown blocks of this small town.
A half hour drive from Hamilton is Jamesport, Missouri. There are a lot of Amish living in this area.
This large wagon was filled with beautiful potted mums that they delivered to the large Amish store that we just happened to visit.
On of our stops was actually at a Walmart parking lot. It really wasn’t too bad to boondocks there for the night.

New Mexico – oh those clouds!
The rain clouds were moving in.
Dennis and Charlie watching the Kansas City Chiefs. Sunday football in the RV.
We are finally nearing home.
Driving toward Flagstaff.
Charlie immediately made himself at home. The trip was great, but it’s always good to be home.
